If weight loss is your goal, protein can be a great place to start.

A simple guideline is to aim for about 1 gram of protein per pound of your ideal body weight.

For example, if your goal weight is 130 pounds, aim for around 130 grams of protein per day, even if your current weight is 160 pounds.

Protein can help you feel fuller and more satisfied while supporting muscle as you work toward your weight-loss goals.

🥩 Easy Protein for the Road

You don't have to cook every meal to get more protein. Keep some easy options available:

  • Greek yogurt or Skyr

  • Cottage cheese cups

  • Hard-boiled eggs

  • Cheese sticks

  • Tuna or salmon packets

  • Beef or turkey jerky

  • Meat sticks

  • Roasted edamame

  • Ready-to-eat chicken or turkey

  • Ready-to-drink protein shakes

🥤 Protein Powder Can Help, Too

Protein powder can be an easy option when you're on the road or need a quick way to increase your protein intake.

When choosing one, look for a short ingredient list with ingredients you recognize. Unflavored varieties are often the simplest.

For example, Naked Whey Isolate lists just two ingredients: whey protein isolate and sunflower lecithin, with 30 grams of protein per serving.

You can mix protein powder with water or milk, or add it to coffee, oatmeal, Greek yogurt, or a smoothie.

🛒 A Quick Label Check

When you're grabbing a protein shake or snack at a truck stop, don't worry about finding the “perfect” product. Instead, look for:

✔️ 20–30+ grams of protein✔️ A reasonable amount of added sugar✔️ An ingredient list you feel comfortable with✔️ Something you'll actually enjoy and use

Ready-to-drink shakes can be especially convenient. Fairlife Core Power, for example, provides 26 grams of protein and 0 grams of added sugar per 14-ounce bottle.

The goal isn't perfection.

It's having a good option available when you're hungry and life on the road makes the convenient choice the easiest choice.

Start by adding more protein to one meal or snack each day… then build from there. 💪🚛
